Tech Tip: Knock Sensor Relocator For RWD 60 Degree Engines

"What part is required to move the knock sensor when I install the new headers?"
There is no part!
Instead, remove the knock sensor from the right hand side of the block where it sits next to dead centre, then remove the water drain plug with the same threads that sits just above the starter on the RWD blocks. Install the knock sensor in this location. The interesting part is, even though this "microphone" no longer sits as close to the top of the block and not in the centre, it will still pick up any knock that occurs. We have done this for years and have had no issues with this free fix. Yes, we have a more expensive retrofit for this as well, but do you want to pay for something that we hardly ever use? SIMPLY PUT: Remove it from location "A" on the picture, to location "B". This alternate location is used by Early TBI and MPFI blocks and was not until the 1993 model year that the extra boss was cast into the block for this improved factory location.
For additional room around the RWD starter and headers, the BMC Mini Gear Reduction Starter can be purchased on our online store; in our British Car Electrical Parts for Conversion Vehicles.
Most of our products come with instructions for easy mounting and time and money saving tips. Parts of our installation instruction book on V6 conversions are sent with products purchased through BMC.
