My Autocross'ing MG B

Autocross MGB - Dwight McCulloughToday I'd like to introduce to you my autocrossing MGB: Yup, my autox car!  I’ve had this one for quite a while. It’s a long story, but the car is relatively rust free. I bought it with the intention of fixin’ it up and selling it.

My son Brian, [you know him] said, ‘Dad you've wanted a rust free MGB for a long time, so don’t sell it’; so I took his advice.

The latest mod’s include the modified and camber adjustable lower control arms with stock front and rear springs. Lowering blocks we made in the rear and the stock rear sway bar. It has poly bushing front and rear and the big 7/8” front bar. I really like the neutral handling it has. I use 6” wheels for street and track, [need 7’s] 195/60R14’s Michelin’s on the street, and 185/60R14 Kumho Victoracers for autox. I installed a OD trans but still no wirky.

I removed the awful heavy [42Lbs each] front and rear rubber bumpers and installed the Sebring valances. It really needs body and paint work, but that doesn’t make I go faster.......

The engine is from a ‘72-73 over-bored. .045” with dished forged pistons, a APT VS 12 cam with the chilled lifters and moly push rods. It has a flow tested/ported head with the rim flow valves and roller rockers from Gutafson. Also the gear reduction starter. I installed a crank evacuation system but it still leaks oil..................

I installed the Moss Motors supercharger kit flat belt aluminum pulleys. [NO supercharger] It has HS4’s with the big K&N air filters, but wanna get sumthin from Amsoil......

And I installed the Electromotive distributor-less ignition son Jon had on his 4 cylinder Porsche. [now with a LS1 engine in it]  We dynoed  both my MG and Brian’s last April at Hytech in elk river MN. Brian of course has the 3.4 Camaro V-6 with 140 wheel HP, and I had 84 Wheel HP pushing out of the 4 cylinder engine.

Dwight McCullough's MGB Autocross ActionAll that being said, HP ain’t no good unless ya gotta driver who can handle it...... When Brian and I go head to head in the same car at the same event, he usually wins 4 out of 6 tries.......

Whataya gonna do? He’s my son and I’m proud of him for more than one reason......
