MG B V6 Conversion Instructions Book
Written by Brian McCullough
About 7 or 8 years ago, I jokingly mentioned on an older forum that I had wrote the book on V6 Conversions. This was something that I had intended as a momentary joke. As forums go, as search functions go and as new people start to read forums from sometimes the oldest post onward, I had quite a few inquiries on how to get copies and a substantial amount of explaining to do. Well, I felt kind of silly trying to explain that this was nothing more than a moment on a forum meaning little in real life.
Skip forward to well, Now!
What you’ll find is that we now have a rough draft on “The Book” on Conversions. Okay, not all conversions, but specifically the 3.4L ‘L32’ Camaro/Firebird F-Body platform driveline from 1993-1995 being fit into an MGB. Although quite a bit of the information could be used for older and newer model motors and most of it can be used as information for Alpines, Healey 3000, and small mud trucks or who-knows-what, it was designed specifically for the MGB 3.4L ‘L32’ V6 SFI conversion.
The “so far” rough draft includes plenty of technical information but don’t expect me to explain every nut-n-bolt, this is quite a bit more than I have read previously from any technical database all in one place. The draft includes information about which standard items can be used, what requires scrapping and yes, what components we provide. The book also describes gear ratios and even PCM codes and why the standard PCM works well with this conversion which is nice for people who want a trouble free PCM for under $40 and no time wasted tuning- get in and drive!

How this was written: This information manual was written after listening, speaking, posting, information hunting, building and inspecting for just shy of 10 years worth of MG Conversions and years worth of British car ownership, repairing and Restoration. As of this writing, one thing I have yet to accomplish is owning or reading any copy of How to Convert your MG (or other car) to V_ Power. Never read ‘em. Sometime in the very near future, now that I have written something that is not a spin off of one of those manuals that everyone claims are a must own, maybe I can sit down and read them to see what I have missed or just see where the authors of those books agree or disagree with my findings. About me: I am the Proprietor of a Company located just north of Minneapolis, MN, USA known as BMC British Automobile, LLC that I have run since starting my self employment journey 10 years ago. We Repair, Restore and modify British cars. We don’t accept anything else. Everything is done to the owner’s desire and dare we say as with any Restoration, determined depth of his/her pocketbook. Besides for Restoration (True Restoration or modified) of Most British cars, we also service and Convert them to the owners needs. We believe that a car should be fun to own so why start with anything less than British. In fact, is there any other type of car that has moved away from appliance and into the realm of both Toy and form of Art? About this manual: This specific manual was created to assist those considering the 1993-1995 Camaro/Firebird 3.4L 60 degree V6 Conversion. Although much of this information can be carried on to earlier and later configurations, it has been manufactured specific to these motors. Other iron head 60 Degree GM motors have similarities but also differences that may make for some confusion. Later motors from Front wheel drive vehicles can offer interesting conversions but potentially more time consuming for the builder or cost more. |
