When you decide its time to restore your automobile, you need an informed source. Running to the first shop next door may not always be the wisest choice on a project as large and complicated as restoration. BMC British Automobile Restoration Services for all types of Britsh Sports Cars Your definition of Restoration could be similar to some peoples idea of resurrection or it might be well beyond what the manufacturer ever imagined. There are three basic types.

Your first type of restoration would be to the quality of road worthy and enjoyable to drive. This may be a car that has been off the road for a number of years, repainted exterior body, maybe a new interior and get a few mechanical items repaired to the point of making the vehicle street worthy. This is the most affordable, least amount of time and materials used.

The second type of restoration would be classified as a full restoration to manufacturers quality. This type would be complete disassembly, restoration or replacement of every component to a clients level of quality and affordability request. Generally, most restorations that are performed are built to Original manufacturers specifications except where the owner desires to alter course- different colour, different style, different lamps, carburettors or camshaft type.

The third type of restoration is going well beyond that which the manufacturer was required to build the car specifications to. This is generally considered a high end restoration and involves better paint, interior, fit and finish. These can be modified restored vehicles or restored to “what the manufacturer would have done had time and materials not been an issue”.

Since all restorations are done by an owner to owner basis, and every part on the vehicle is restored and purchased individually, we do our best to not box any portion of a restoration to a certain style. ALL of our restorations are built towards building a car to a minimum of the factory safety standards or beyond when possible. Reliability is high on our priority as well. Cosmetic restoration is something we are very good at along with the owners assistance.

Questions to ask yourself when searching for a great restoration shop:

Do they know my British car?

We Know British cars and engineering. We know Skinners Union ( S.U. ) We know Lucas and positive groundings. We understand SAE, Metric, British Standard and Whitworth. We know under the bonnet, the boot and everything between.

Do they have any interest in my British Automobile?

While other Countries have good products, this shop is exclusive to British vehicles to contain our time and expertise in this portion of the field. This is a British Automotive shop. That’s all we do- Full Stop! If you have a non British vehicle, we can refer you to good specialists for your vehicle. British cars are our work... Anything mechanical, old threshing machines, steam engines, Johnny poppers, everything aviation, fire apparatus and whatnot are also of interest, but not worked on in the shop.

What about specific British car parts sourcing?

We have multiple parts sources for each make and model. We chose parts by owners request. Price, quality and performance of each component is very important to each restoration. Although we supply much of our products through the likes of Moss Motors, we are not married to any certain manufacturer. We will let you know of any difference in quality, price, timeframe or any other potential difference that may benefit your restoration.

What is there British Automobile background and experience?

Restoration is not for the faint of heart and is a long term process. Restorations commonly take over one year depending on the vehicles condition and the end results required to meet specifications. The shop and automobile owner will be in contact often. Sometimes not for a week or two, and sometimes several times a day trying to determine the right parts or direction. If the shop is used to quick turn around work, the facility and employees may not be prepared for storing components, documentation for historical records of the vehicle, photo-documenting problems and solutions along with alterations. This may also present other detail issues or the general understanding of how “old cars” do not have OEM components with sometimes less then ideal installation and fitment.
