1977 - 1980 MGB V6 Conversions Parts List

This is YOUR Road Map to your 1977-1980 MGB with a 3.4L SFI V6!

PLEASE NOTE: This page is a cut and paste

made in Haste. (Such a waste!) We are

working on installing Several pages of

information previously not public.  Feel free to reach out to us as we know that this page has several errors and outdated information that will be updated as time allows and by

Request.

*Thank You for your patience.*

This conversion price list is set up to be used with the 1993-94-95 Camaro/Firebird 'L32' 3.4L V6. It is mainly for the T5 Five-speed from behind the Camaro/Firebird V6 engine. It can also be used for the 4L60-E Automatic conversion (best to use the 1968-80 MGB bodyshell for the auto) and also has conditioning and other options available. If you do not see an option you desire, please start by checking the online store at: https://bmcautos.com/shop

We offer and build small items to complete engines & gearboxes, and more items not shown on this list.

If you would like to find a motor or gearbox locally, search www.car-part.com for a 1994 Camaro 3.4L V6 engine and gearbox.

For Craigslist or facebook marketplace, 1993-1994-1995 Firebirds and Camaros can be found locally. We find it easier to purchase a complete engine and/or gearbox from the recycling yard than working with a complete car more often than not.

Order direction for Most Projects:

1) Know your MGB model year. This will change the list if the car year varies greatly!

2) know what the make, model and year of your donor engine and gearbox came out of.

3) Have the engine on hand or ready to order from the salvage yard, same with the gearbox and associated bellhousing before order parts from us. The used engine is the 'wildcard' in all of this!

4) Order the basic conversion kit, #2-101 and if you are going with the 3.4L SFI engine, we have 2-102 as a good item to order early BEFORE the first bolt is removed from the engine.

5) For best results, order the motor and gearbox first, then items from us. Our parts make a lot more sense once you have the donor motor to start modifying.

HOW TO USE THIS PRICE LIST AS A ROAD MAP TO YOUR PROJECT:

*PRINT IT OUT SO YOU CAN STUDY AND NOTATE.

*DETERMINE ITEMS THAT YOU NEED AND CIRCLE THE PART NUMBERS

When ready to order, please go to bmcauto.com/shop or contact us.

*ITEMS THAT YOU ARE UNSURE OF, CHECK OUR ONLINE STORE FOR THE PART NUMBER AND READ FURTHER DESCRIPTIONS FIRST, THEN SPEAK TO US FOR MORE INFORMATION. THIS LIST IS HERE TO HELP YOU PLAN AT THE BEGINNING SO THE IDEA THAT 'I'LL JUST USE THE ONE I HAVE' OR THE FORGETTABLES ARE DISCOVERED AND PLANNED UP FRONT.

*ITEMS CAN BE SUBSTITUTED! This list has our general Recommendations based off many factors that can and possibly will change.

*CROSS OUT ITEMS YOU DO NOT REQUIRE. IF IN DOUBT AND THE ONLINE STORE DOES NOT GIVE ENOUGH INFORMATION, WE CAN ASSIST VIA EMAIL AND TELEPHONE.

2-101 *MGB Conversion Kit, V6 60 Degree

As the part is listed, this is item number 101 for a reason. After you have secured your 3.4L engine and gearbox, this is the starter kit: with headers, engine mount system and gearbox crossbrace included. Comes with basic installation instructions that discuss headers and mounting system as well as some body modification information. Please note: This item is drop shipped direct and we offer far more photos on our website to assist in the installation of the engine as well as photos along the way for the entire project.

2-102 3.4 L32 Assembly Manual

Note: The BMC instruction manual is used to assist in the Exterior tear down and Rebuild of the Camaro engine and build it into "MGB engine bay trim" status for stock fuel injection and/or pulley arrangement. This will cut down many weekends worth of guesswork as to what is required and what is superfluous. 2-102- does not include freight charges. It is highly recommended to order this before tearing into the 3.4L for any reason, however, without having the Camaro/Firebird 3.4L already on hand, it will not make sense as it is best to follow along with your progress. It does not give instructions on BMC products, as many of our products come with their own instructions/

Item 2-101- get this as soon as you have the engine and gearbox determined.

Item 2-102- get this before removing one bolt from the Camaro/Firebird 3.4L L32 V6 as it explains what items to save and what to remove on the average fuel injected 3.4L SFI engine. It also helps give basic understanding of the stock front accessory system with a simple BMC pulley relocation kit.

1-010 Switch, Battery Cut out HD 180A/1000A Start/Surge

Highly recommended item.

When building a car that will have cost and time in wiring than you really want to care for and a car will potentially sit for a few months every year, it's nice to have a power cut off switch. BMC installs these switches

1-040 *Power Junction Block (Power cable Not inlcuded)

Highly recommended item.

Modern cars use a built in power junction block specific to their manufacturers design. Cars from the 1970's and earlier would place every power feed wire from the car onto the starter terminal. This will cause issues with random loss of power, corrosion, heat issues on the power feed wires next to the engine and exhaust system, and a messy end result. Our power junction block is often placed inside the vehicle next to the passengers footwell vent giving a nice place to tie the power wires together, a nice place to charge the battery from (if you've ever left the lights on and had to get to the battery, you know what we mean!), and a clean appearing wiring system.

1-111 Power Junction Feed Cable (2), 60", w/Alternator Boot & Ring Terminals

Line with fittings ready to cut and install to your required length. Note: some engines come with old battery cables which can be reused for this.

1-120 Earth Strap Set, Heavy Duty

Highly recommended item.

One for the engine from the

gearbox mount from above to below

1-310 *Starter, Mini Gear reduction RWD

Our gear reduction starter is smaller and lighter than the stock unit. It is easier to fit and remove if it becomes necessary. An easy 10 minute modification for the automotive weekend warrior must be accomplished to fit this unit but if you have a worn out or missing starter, check out our starter.

1-405 *Connector, ALDL (OBD II) 16 Pin, Under Dash

Although the Powertrain Control Module (known otherwise as the PCM) run in the 1993 Camaro/Firebird runs a 12 pin diagnostic plug, we have found that it is slightly better to run the later 1994-95 PCM which only operates with a 16 pin plug. The plug above is not required for the operation of the V6 conversion, only for the diagnostics if it should be required. This plug and correct wiring should be available in any GM vehicle built after 1996 or 94-95 Camaro/Firebird vehicles and thus can be picked up for next to free and usually in good condition used to save a few dollars.

Choices on Wiring looms from BMC:    1-410 and 1-411 for Graft-in, or complete vehicle wiring system.

1-410 *Fuel Injection Harness, "Primary and Secondary" for 3.4L V6 SFI

Highly Recommended (with main loom in Very good condition)

Use the above wiring loom for cars that have an Extremely good condition stock or replacement factory or aftermarket wiring loom. With older plastic types, British and American wiring that is over 30 years old tend to be corroded on the inside as some moisture does eventually get below the plastic and can give issue. Generation 3.1.0 of our part number 1-410 system is a two part wiring system that we have been manufacturing for many years starting with Gen. 1.0.0 offered back in 2,000! The engine portion is ready to install for

1-413 Air Conditioning Option, 3.4L SFI wiring loom (1-410 graft in only)

A/C system wiring for the graft in A/C option gives longer wiring for PCM remote location, additional wiring for the compressor and other minor changes making it easier to install the A/C immediately or in the future.

1-414 Automatic 4L60-E Wiring Option, GM Automatic w/SFI Engine wiring loom (1-410, 1-411, 1-412)

-OR-

1-411 *MGB Body Loom with 3.4L 'L32' Engine Harness, Complete Vehicle System

Highly Recommended for...

Complete restorations, MGs that have wiring in poor condition- sometimes un-noted until once cut into, anyone considering using an aftermarket system. This system has all the fuses and relays that you will otherwise install under one type of fuse/relay panel that is smaller than others with far more items protected. This is also the only wiring loom that is wrapped and further completed than anything else on the market, not only in that it is for the 3.4L V6 but also because the majority of the wires to the four corners of the car have been wrapped and set to install only connectors at the end and the dash build.

1-415 Air Conditioning Option, (1-411, 1-412 complete wiring loom) 3.4L SFI wiring loom

1-414 Automatic 4L60-E Wiring Option, GM Automatic w/SFI Engine wiring loom (1-410, 1-411, 1-412)

Note: The air conditioning option for the complete vehicle also includes fuses and relays for that system to tie into the complete car included in both portions of the system. This also includes longer wiring for the PCM relocation, fuse panel located behind the glove box and other items that make easier installation of the air conditioning in the immediate or future cases.

1-416 3.4L 'L32' Injector Loom, 1993-1995 Camaro/Firebird, BMC Manufactured- GM replacement

1-416: The original Camaro/Firebird 3.4L injector wiing loom is still most commonly in usable shape. Every once in a while, someone will have cut this loom, or broke it when removed from the original car. This section does not come with either the 1-410 or 1-411 engine wiring to keep costs lower. Purchase only if yours is leaking electricity and/or smoke.

1-440 Reverse Lamp switch Plug and Harness (1-440)

Early MGBs do not have reversing lights. Many MGBs have the reverse lamps removed for cosmetic purposes. If the lights are used, the gearbox has a good reverse switch located on it and this plug and wire did not come with the GM T5, order one of these.

1-480 Reflashed 3.4L V6 PCM, No Core Required (1 year complete warranty)

OR

1-482 PCM, Reflashed 3.4L V6, 4L60-E Automatic, *BMC Base Tune

No Core Required -4737

1-483 PCM, Manual only - Reflashed 3.4L V6 PCM, *BMC Performance Tune, Aprox +10 BHP*  No Core Required

1-480 Has antitheft shut down, cooling temps reset properly and a number of small tuning items worked into the system. We do not alter fuel or spark tables for otherwise standard engines as that is not required for a good running economical and good performance. We recommend our unit- software and hardware under warranty with our PCM. Stock PCM will NOT function as-is.

Some performance updates for engines with specific modifications are available but are special order.

We also offer 1-481- reflash your PCM for almost the same price. We do Not offer hardware warranty on reflashing yours and generally speaking, many do not ship the correct PCM to us. We HIGHLY recommend using our reflashed PCM for best results.

The 1-480 PCM compared to the 1-483:

The 1-480 PCM has GM programming  with a few changes by BMC for the MGB specific conversion. A very nice factory program, no antitheft worries, the temp has been changed, and other items to make it better for the conversion. Expect 165 BHP and 220 Lb-Tq.

The BMC custom tuned 1-483 are beyond the 1-480 and have a dyno proven 10 BHP edge over factory numbers. This dyno tune program is for stock engines, or engines with a minor camshaft change, such as a 252H or 260H camshaft. We produced this tune to our own specifications on several engines brought to the engine dynamometer. We brought in several specialists to help build the tune produced specifically for our conversions. The extra cost charged for this PCM is Very minor compared to the costs of development! With a completely stock 3.4L, we came up with the following numbers:

Stock 3.4L V6 ready to install in an MGB with the BMC 1-483 programmed PCM produces 175 BHP and 230 Lb-Tq. Combine the 1-483 with a 252H or 260H camshaft, and the power increases to about 183 BHP and 240 Lb-Tq. or so.  Although more power can be produced out of this engine, most going for higher power engines in their MGBV6 conversions usually find this is beyond what their original expectations when considering the weight and size of the MGB! The difference in price for our tuned version at around $10 for every BHP, is well worth the price difference, if more power is desired.

1-950 Oxygen Sensor, one-wire, 3.4L V6    NOTE: TWO REQUIRED PER SYSTEM.

If you have two O2 about the same age as each other and in good condition, used can be run. If uncertain, purchase two.

1-979 Rubber Plug, Firewall for Engine wiring

Order one plug for computer by passengers feet, order two for A/C systems to remote mount the PCM.

2-220 Water Temp Sensor Adapter, for OEM Electric Sensor

2-720 *Oil Pressure Gauge Adapter, for OEM SMIthS gauges with British Threaded lines and fittings.

Use above two adapters ONLY when running factory Smith gauges and senders. If considering aftermarket gauges, we recommend Smiths and Speedhut as two types to look at. Speedhut can be customised like nothing else and for what they are, happen to be within a reasonable cost. For a decent low price no frills gauge set, Dolphin makes a decent product for the small speedo and tacho 1968-76 MGB dashboards.

1968-1976 DASHBOARDS ONLY:

First, the earlier electric gauge 68-71 was later replaced by mechanical units in 72-76. Since this rectangle gauge is difficult to replace due to space constraints, BMC highly recommends #1- run the reliable later mechanical gauge and #2 use our 2-720 adapter that fits the engine and will allow the reuse of the flex hose and repurposing of the copper coated (Steel!) line that runs behind the dash on these later cars. BL tried the electric gauges in these few cars but every MG from the T series to the last MG B and Midget all otherwise had the very reliable mechanical pressure gauge.

Side note: Since you might change the rest of the gauges but leave this one, tear it apart and paint all internal surfaces with a Gloss White paint to allow more light to emit from the front of the face. We have even sent these gauges in and repainted to match white (and other) coloured faced gauges.

2-300 Brake Booster Delete Plug, Aluminium

OR

2-310 Brake Booster Vacuum Elbow

Highly Recommended:

1975-1980 MGBs have boosted brakes. If your car will have NO boosted brakes, order the 2-300 for the back of the manifold. (This plug can also be used in the BMC alloy radiator as the plug)

For cars that will end up with boosted brake systems out of the late model MGB, order the 2-310

2-320 EGR blanking plate w/hardware kit, L32 3.4L, includes button head bolts

Above plate is brushed stainless and has the BMC script etched into it. These can be buffed to a chrome like finish by the installer if desired but the brushed appearance blends well with the aluminium manifold and since some manifolds are painted engine colour by the end installer, this is easier to paint if desired.
Note: We have a limited quantity of decent but "blemished" blanking plates.
To save a few dollars, these run $10.00 without hardware (button head/alan bolts).

2-335 Exhaust Manifold Gasket, Set
Replacement gaskets, the slightly wider gasket type
Note: Use Copper colour RTV on both sides of gasket and see to it that everything fits well. Headers are hand made and no matter who manufactures them, we always check final fit before blindly bolting them in place.

2-350 Distributor and Oil pump drive O ring seal

Highly Recommended:
This is easier to seal before engine is installed and is a common leak point.

2-370 Serpentine Belt simplification kit for Camaro ''L32'' motors
Highly Recommended: (For Non-A/C systems running SFI)
Above kit allows for working system on 3.4L L32 motor only. This is NOT the system for Air Conditioning. An A/C pulley system will run about $500 for the L32 system which does not include an AC compressor for a few hundred more. (If running carb, for a certain Appearance, let us make a different pulley kit recommendation)

Additional Note: If planning A/C but not immediately, use the above system for the Camaro/Firebird 3.4L belt system modifications which cuts costs and time. If planning A/C for the Stage I of a Build or while going through a complete Restoration, Consider the complete pulley systems below:

For systems using other versions of the front timing covers, or other non-3.4L engines, we offer a lot of Really Awesome Pulley kits Designed by Bill G. of Classic Conversions Eng Fame! Check the various pulley systems for the RWD GMV6 HERE

2-371 Bolt set, Flanged, Water pump and Timing cover, RWD 60* V6

Note: Above bolt set only if the engine was torn apart and missing these. Generally they are still in the engine and the factory hardware is very nice to reuse.

2-380 Serpintine Belt Tensioner- Modified L32 3.4L
Note: Generally still in place and can be reused. If you order this locally, follow our instructions in kit 2-370 for how to slightly modify for a great fit.

2-399 V-6 Distributor Stud and Nut Kit
Note: Above stud/nut for carb conversion with distributor. Not required, just easier.

2-415 Alternator Hardware, 1993-95 Camaro 'L32'

Alternator sometimes removed from the Camaro engine and the bolts missing from the salvage yard. If the aluminium bracket that holds the alternator and A/C pump (A/C pump cannot be reused for this conversion btw!) is still in place but the alternator was removed, this is the long bolt, nut and short bolt to easily mount the alternator back on the original L32 alternator bracket and is a difficult to find hardware set due to sizes and when only ordered in quantity of 1 each, thus we stock it to make it easy to replace if yours is missing.

2-502 MGB Cold Air Box, Air Filter, intake bellows assembly V6/V8 Conversion
(LHS- fits 1976 and older MGB radiator welded flange w/replacement radiator in 77-80 location as per BMC instructions)

Highly Recommended:
This item is manufactured and sold exclusively by BMC and can be seen in a lot of our online photos. Can be fit to all year MGBs. Most ideal for 1962-76 MGBs that still retain the original MGB radiator flange and the replacement cooling system for the 77-80 MGB. (See BMC part #'s 5-100 through 5-105)

2-503 3.4L V6 'L32' GM/Camaro ~Engine Cover~  Engine Conversion, Aluminium, No wording, No Hardware

Note: Cosmetic only. Very neat item but it can always be installed in the future/Phase II  as it is the very top of the motor over the fuel injector rail.

2-710 Oil level sensor Delete Plug
Highly Recommended:
For stock oil pans, remove the oil pan level sender and install this. Comes with a copper sealing ring.

2-735 Drain Plug Seal
Recommended:
This is a rubber embedded metal seal as per original. These can take the abuse of many years and since the outer ring is metal but the inner portion is rubber, seal better with no need to overtighten. If they would have only had drain plug seals like this on cars in the 1970s!

2-775 PCV Rubber Elbow, manifold front, 3.4L V6

Highly Recommended:
On the top of the engine, directly behind the throttle body and very close to where it reads "3.4L SFI", this replaces the commonly Broken and unneeded 'T' vacuum fitting. The original vacuum fitting went to the GM HVAC system (not used in the MG) and to the PCV plastic pipe and then onto the drivers side valve cover PCV. This replaces this item perfectly.

2-811 Throttle cable assembly, 3.4L SFI and other FI conversions
Highly Recommended:
The stock GM cable is too short for the conversion. The MG cable has the incorrect components and is not adjustable in the way required. Our cable has the correct components to fit the 3.4L SFI throttle body and the MGB body and is complete with hardware and instructions. Compare this to aftermarket units at twice the price without the required hardware.

2-930 Oil Filter Bypass Valve, GM 60 degree V6

Recommended:
Originally in the factory 90 degree oil filter aluminium casting n the rear drive engines, we relocate these directly into the engine when we remove the 90* adapter, pull the oil filter nipple off the adapter and screw the adapter directly into the engine block- this  bypass valve is placed right alongside the pipe nipple and keeps the oil from draining back out of the filter during long sessions of non-use.

2-931 Header Bolt Kit
Note: Don't lose your header bolts once you get them with the conversion kit and you will not require these. (Yes, as silly as it sounds, header bolts are lost often so use this as more of a warning to not lose yours... We're still telling the guys in our own shop this once in a while)

DRIvELINE: BMC offers everything but the internal components and speedometer cables (which may change soon!) or VSS for the T5 combinations. We even offer complete T5 rebuilds with all the bits and pieces. Options can be discussed, as we do not have a one-sizes fits all system and we build to each project to the owners preference and availability. We also offer a select type of bellhousings when available.

3-020 Shifter bush, T5

Whether rebuilding the T5 is going to happen or not, this bush should be one of the few easy replacement parts ordered and easily installed while the shifter is out.

3-220 Bolt Kit, GM T5 Gearbox
Highly Recommended Specifically: For gearboxes that were not purchased with all hardware to bolt the engine to bellhousing, bellhousing to gearbox, gearbox to shifter and/or gearbox mount to crossmember.

3-410 Mount, GM T5 Gearbox
Highly Recommended: This gearbox mount is lower than the stock Camaro T5 mount. This helps lower the rear of the driveline down which helps on all conversions.

3-420 Gearbox seal, Rear GM T5

3-430 Gearbox seal- Front T5
Use the above seals when installing a non-rebuilt gearbox.

3-340 Spring Perch Set, Weld on for GM/Ford Axle
Above weld on set is for those who are converting their rear axle to a non-MG rear axle. Our spring perch set is a 'boxed steel' type that works well for Ford, GM or other axles reusing the original spring perch size.

3-510 Driveshaft, T5 to stock rear axle
Highly Recommended: Our propshaft is the correct length and diameter. You can fit what others build but ours does not require a day cutting and welding the bodyshell to fit! This smaller unit is rated above the power levels of all but maybe full race engines.

3-540 Flywheel, clutch kit, HTOB and hardware, Cast Flywheel system
Highly Recommended: The above system includes the following:
-3-110 Lighter Steel Flywheel, this flywheel is ideal for the standard 2,200 pound MGB or even the most heavy MG BGT at 2,500 pounds. The Camaro weighs in at around 3,200-3,400 pounds and is much harder to get rolling than the MGB- thus the obnoxious factory flywheel! Our replacement is better suited to the MGB. Although we Love the weight of the aluminium flywheel we have also offered, the price at over $500 for the aluminium flywheel for an otherwise stock V6 conversion is usually better off spent elsewhere.
-3-210 -OR- 3-225 Clutch disc (spline count:_______) with Pressure plate, -3-270 Flywheel to pressure plate hardware kit,
-3-200 GM flywheel to Crank bolt kit,
-3-330 Hydraulic Throw Out Bearing- complete kit with all lines and fittings (everything except the MGB master cylinder and banjo w/bolt)

These items can be ordered separately by request.

3-560 Shifter, MGB to Camaro T5 'box and bell, Modified
3-580 Shifter, Short throw- Camaro T5 box and bell, Modified
Note on Shifters 3-560, 570 and 580: These shifters are built for centered location for 68-80 MGBs. The MGB shifter movement from first to second gear of about 5" when new and far longer when worn. Our standard throw shifter is slightly shorter throw (in Length, NOT height) than a stock MGB shifter at 4" when the gearbox is tight and is a nice fit for a lower price. Our short throw shifter is 2" when the gearbox is tight. Shifters do not come with a rubber isolator. Price shown is with no shifter core returned to us. If you have a non-rubber isolator type shifter from a 1968 MGB onwards, this is worth a $30 core to us and any stock rebuildable GM T5 shifter is worth $70 core charge. If you happen to have a PCM with the right serial number, these are commonly worth $20 each and some are worth $25- serial number dependent. It's worth the effort to package these items up and ship them to us for a discount. This also helps pay it forward to keep us stocked for the next guy. Thank You in Advance!

*****NOTE: For 1967 and older, our shifters are actually built for 1968 and later shifter location. It may be best if you want a shifter in the proper location to redesign the one you have as we do not currently have a jig for pre1968 shifters. Ours will fit with some floor/shifter location modifications.*****

3-561 Rubber Shifter Boot, Replacement
Note: The rubber shifter boot is already part of our shifters, but if you are building your own, please check the condition of your shifter boot as these may be in a poor state.

3-600 Bearing Retainer, Front
Note: **Not a required item.** The stock front bearing retainer is short. When we rebuild our T5 gearboxes in house, we install our longer unit. We have used many of the stock units without issue as well but given the choice, this is what we go with when going through the T5. We only will use this with our lighter flywheels.

3-650 3.31:1 Crown and Pinion, MGB Tube Type Axle
3-651 3.07:1 Crown and Pinion, MGB Tube Type Axle

Highly Recommended: (Read on!)
Rear end gearing is not critical to completing a project for running and driving so for many people, this is considered a phase two item to be completed in a year or so after the car is up and running.
Changing gear ratios on the stock MGB differential OR change out to a different rear axle altogether?
The costs for these gears in the 1968-80 MGB, seals, shims to tighten up the spider gears and other minor bits plus installation cost (Labour) is less than converting the MGB tube type axle to a narrowed GM, Ford or other rear axle once the 'dust settles'.
We highly recommend considering this as a Stage II item if your differential does not need to come apart right now. The exception to this would be the full restoration where everything is being completed before the car is placed back in service in which case it may be better to just get this done while the car is completely apart and the axle has likely been removed already.
**When ready to install, we will help you select gear ratio choices. There are a lot of variables including vehicle weight, camshaft selection, fuel injection vs. carburettor, which gearbox you have (it is Critical that you know what specific gearbox ratios you have before you install that in your car- ask us Ahead!), driving style, flatlands of Iowa or the Mountains of Colorado and other issues.**

************** T5 FIVE-SPEED CONSIDERATIONS:
Although the T5 from a Camaro V8 can also be used with a stock rear end gear ratio, this will give your Sports-Car something that feels much like truck gearing. (Our complaint about this also falls with those with V8 and other engines that are high torque engines) Trucks are shift up as the vehicle is sped up, NEVER downshift unless the vehicle is slowed down first and truck cruising gearing is still built mostly for hauling loads or trailers. With the "V8-T5", you will end up with an un-usable 4th gear above 60 (Exactly Like the current MGB Situation!) and never a reason to downshift. The V8-T5 is usually harder to find and more costly to repair as it is usually much more worn out. With almost two decades of assisting MGB owners with conversions, please take our advice and stay away from the V8-T5 gearbox unless you are building a racing engine with a limited power band. If you feel you need the V8-T5, please consult with us.

WITH THE V6 T5, We recommend a Phase II, at  some point down the road, a rear axle RE-Gearing will be accomplished for proper gearing for the proper V6-T5 combination. When you are ready for phase II regearing, we offer two sets of gears that work fantastic with the MGB conversion for almost any need. We highly recommend when you are ready for a set of gears to contact us with all information about your car including gearbox tag number, gear ratios and more information about your total car build. (Don't forget to copy down your T5 green sticker info on top of the gearbox for future reference as it is Impossible to get to once) *******

TANK NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH US BUT WE STILL RECOMMEND IT:
4-012 18 Gallon Petrol Tank, MGB, Fuel Injection Internal Pump
Note: This tank is no longer offered directly through BMC but sending people to the manufacturer direct for these tanks. We also offer a DUAL EXHAUST tank. Tanks are expensive but built very nice with lots of features. Tanks do not just hold gasoline. Starting price on any custom tanks- $825.00.
We always recommend the use of internal fuel ump system but to keep the cost down, an external pump can be used to start with. External pumps do not last more than a few years and are loud. Note: We highly recommend staying away from the two tank remote fuel pump systems as they are complicated, even more costly (once everything has been purchased and installed!) and have more potential to fail.

At this time, we do not offer much in line of the fuel system however, one should know a few basics:
the original S.U. carburettor system only required 2 to 3 pounds of pressure whereas the replacement 3.4L fuel injection system requires up to 47 psi. This requires some change in the fuel system. Although the tank can be reused if-it-is-clean, often it is not and requires replacement with ANY driveline for Reliability. The best fuel pump for a high pressure fuel system is an in tank pump Besides for the tank list above, please check out MG Experience conversions forum and the britishv8 forum for more ideas on tanks and pumps. The fuel hose should be limited to as short of length as possible using high pressure fuel injection rubber and as much of the 3/8" feed and 5/16" return lines should be steel, aluminium or stainless lines. Also note that like ALL other gauges, the fuel tank sender and gauge (Smiths or aftermarket) need to correct sensor to function properly with the gauge. Please speak to your gauge supplier for information on proper sender information.

1-954 Air Intake Sensor
Highly Recommended: This is one of the few items not directly bolted to the engine that is commonly missing and Required to make the engine run correctly. Originally fits in the rubber elbow intake pipe that would bolt directly to the throttle body. If you remember to pick it up with the engine, reuse the original, if not, we have them on hand. We install this in the air filter as far away from engine heat as possible.

HEATING:
Please note: we have several designs in cooling systems. All of our system have been test fit into multiple cars. Radiator installation components are British Motor Heritage Approved panels with complete hardware and installation instructions that BMC exclusively provides with our kits. Our aluminium radiators are Computer Aided Draft (CAD) designed to appear to standard British Leyland spec 1980 model year with improvements for inlet and outlet pipe size and location, direction of pipes, radiator cap. These radiators allow for the additional room AND cooling capacity for the system by moving them to the stock location for the late model MGB. Please note: a Stock late model MGB radiator cools more than well enough for even a higher performing 3.4L V6 conversion but by demand, we offer even more! All our radiators are welded (not epoxied), and made in the USA. Radiators

1-500 is a stock radiator with the radiator, pressurised overflow, and panel kit included. Note: The stock 1977-80 cooling system if in good condition can be used as-is for the 3.4L SFI engine. The 3.4L with the stock late model cooling system is probably the only engine combination that fits extremely well with a stock MG radiator. Other engines and/or radiator combinations require a lot of work to make them work together between inlet/outlet size, location, radiator effectiveness and other issues dealing with mismatched conversion attempts.

1-501 is the aluminium radiator designed after the stock 77-80 cooling system. It has a filler neck fit to the top tank, fits with installation kit 5-105 and is built to mimic the 1980 cooling system with minor modifications for the V6 conversion utilizing as much factory design and engineering as possible. Inlet and outlet pipes have been altered for a better appearance, fit and best for the conversion. The cap allows a person to keep the cost of an overflow tank to a minimum and its location (as a non-pressurised overflow bottle) may even be hidden in locations such as the wheel well.  3/8" NPT bung fit to bottom tank for drain or sensor- no sensor required on our computer controlled engines but may be used on carburetted versions. For 1976 and older model MGBs, order kit #5-105 installation kit to properly fit the cooling system. Note: If painting the engine bay, the cooling system should be fit first.

1-503 is a direct replacement to the 1977-80 radiator and is nearly identical to 1-501 but rather than having a filler neck on the radiator, it requires a pressurised overflow tank like the stock 1977-80 MGB. The feed pipe between the radiator and tank is fit on the side of the radiator for a   secluded appearance. For 1976 and older model MGBs, order kit #5-105 installation kit to properly fit it.

5-101 Aluminium Radiator w/Filler Neck, MGB V6 3.4L, Forward Located cooling system

5-103 Aluminium Radiator, No filler neck (as per stock 1977-80) MGB V6 3.4L, Forward Located cooling system
NOTE: Requires pressure tank w/cap - **Sold Separately**

5-139 Adapter pipe, used in lower conversion radiator hose to face the hose direction slightly different (Optional)

5-140 Hose, Lower Radiator

5-141 Hose, Upper Radiator 3.4L SFI 'L32' V6
Both hoses above for the BMC radiator systems. Note: If you have an original Camaro lower radiator hose in Very Good condition, the upper MGB V6 hose can be cut out of this lower Camaro unit. If not, our upper unit will cost less to purchase.

5-185 Electric Cooling Fan, High Efficiency
The above fan is the highest CFM efficiency we can find that fits within the confines of the MGB engine bay. It also has a decent electrical draw and life span.

If you have stock fans on the late 1977 onward MGB and they function, they can be used until a time where better cooling is desired. Commonly stock fans are in poor shape and were not a high quality unit to begin with. Did you know: many MG, Jaguar and Triumph electric cooling fans on certain year cars are repurposed wiper motors with fan blades attached without the wiper assembly gearing?!

COOLING: MG Midget technology: a novelty item such as a water faucet valve to shut down the demister in the engine bay is not going to be acceptable on a car that you are modernising. Classic cars generally are not as well insulated from the factory, being able to control heat in the mid-day and morning/evening, most areas need some type of heat control.
With Any conversion, the materials to fit a heater system requires plumbing hardware out of the manifold, hose clips, formed hoses and pipes. The original MGB is an okay example of this. The factory had a fit lower radiator hose on the later cars and the earlier cars had pieces of lower pipe made from cast and brass. The pipe that went across the top of the engine and the heater valve and cable design was all part of this and it did well. Like many modern engines, this engine has both the heater inlet and outlet on the front of the engine although this may not sound as nice as the MG heater valve towards the rear, this difference gives much hotter and far better flowing water. Your heater will actually produce- heat!

Our heater system includes 100% Stainless steel Jubilee clips (Hose clamps), Pipe fittings, formed pipes that specifically are fit to the 3.4L SFI system and finish similar to OEM systems- the pipes and fit hoses run properly through the engine formed as best possible, not flopping around.

We also offer a heater valve kit that is complimentary to our heater kit and allows the original MGB heater valve cable to be fit as many were from the factory- out of the hole on the firewall under the heater blower motor fan.

Other notes: Check out speedhut for custom gauges.

Generic ideas for gauges:

*Cheap, okay but not great looking in an MGB: Dolphin.

*Nicely priced and customisable to look just about however you want- higher price but far more options: Speedhut

*Highest Price: Restore standard Smith Gauges or purchase replacement Smiths. My personal thoughts- I really like these but the price can be several thousand dollars to do this. Justifiable to few unless the conversion must be completely incognito.

Suggestion: Keep your exhaust simple. A Y pipe into a single exhaust. Having the exhaust built at an exhaust shop is advisable. Building it yourself will cost a lot of time and really not produce any real savings compared to a budget exhaust shop that should be able to produce a decent job.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: CARBURETORS-

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING MOVING TOWARDS CARBURETOR, THIS DOES NOT SAVE ANY TIME OR MONEY. WE RECOMMEND STAYING WITH THE FACTORY FUEL INJECTION FOR A RELIABLE ENGINE THAT SHOULD HOLD UP BETTER THAN QUARTER MILLION MILES. IF CARBURETOR IS IN YOUR FUTURE, PLEASE LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE FOR THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:

2-362 UPPER MANIFOLD

5-143 THERMOSTAT HOUSING

2-372 -and other similar PULLEY KITS. ALTHOUGH OUR STANDARD 3.4L PULLEY KIT WORKS, WHEN SWITCHING OVER TO CARB, THERE ARE OTHER SYSTEMS THAT LOOK "THE PART" WITH CARBURETOR. THESE OTHER SYSTEMS WILL REQUIRE A DIFFERENT ALTERNATOR, AND WOULD ALSO LOOK BETTER WITH A DIFFERENT WATER PUMP AND COVER- IF GOING FOR A 1960s/70s APPEARANCE. CALL US FOR MORE INFORMATION.
