When four or six just aren't enough, an MGB with the Ford 302 may be the answer.
The Classic Conversions Mount kit allows the Ford V8 to be Fit to the MGB. As with all MGBs, the later the car, the less work it takes to fit it. The 1977-1980 MGB being the easiest, the 1968-1976 will require sheetmetal reworking to the firewall and tunnel, with the original 1962-1967 MGB engine and gearbox tunnel sheetmetal being the most difficult.
This kit is a bolt-in and includes adjustable engine mounts for clearance and pinion angle. All steel components are powder coated and zinc plated accordingly. The kit fits both the Chrome and Rubber bumper MGBs. Kit requires significant alteration to the firewall and tunnel for the 1967 and earlier cars. The 1977 and later MGBs will have less work required to fit.
MGB to Ford V8 Mount Kit includes the following:
• Gearbox crossmember
• Frame brackets
• Engine brackets
• Adjustable Motor mounts
• Bolts and basic instruction manual
*Does Not include Headers*
Requirements to vehicle:
Extensive Alteration, fabrication and welding to the firewall, tunnel, engine bay and Subframe is required with all 1962-1975 installations. In 1976-1980 vehicles, Less welding/modification will be needed, but still required.
Recommendations
Weight: To lower the weight penalty of the Ford engine, use an aluminium flywheel, aluminium cylinder heads, and any other weight savings measure.
Rear Axle & Suspension: To keep the lower powered cars from (Ahem) passing you up from 0-60, a 250+ BHP car that's still a one wheel wonder, with 175 series rear tyres, and stock suspension will "Tramp" leaving your more powerful conversion susceptible to more power than capable of applying to the pavement. Don't let this happen to You! The more power up front, the more correction this situation requires with the right axle ratios, better rear suspension with anti-tramp capabilities, a wider tyre footprint, and limited slip.
Cooling: The cooling system will require a forward location due to engine size, fitting cooling system plumbing, and potentially intake routing.
Please do your research before starting an engine conversion. Many components of the replacement engine will not fit the short and narrow engine bay of the MGB, and all components that connect between the body and driveline to the engine will require altering to produce a safe and reliable vehicle.
The Five-O! -Now...How far did they say a 302 can be Bored and Stroked?
