BMC Works hard to help you with tech information long before you ask!  The GM 3.4L V6 is a Great Conversion for the MGB, and we do what we can so you have a lot of information on the engine up front.

Dropping an engine into a different car means things will need some alteration and some general maintenance down the road. The Camaro/Firebird 3.4L V6 with standard fuel injection is easily found in the MGB due to its great power with reliability, and support and ease of installation. If you're not dropping this V6 in an MGB, it may still thrill you to find BMC is the source for much of the 3.4L GM 60°V6!

3.4L Camaro Upper End:  The first diagram shows the upper end exploded view with the items that remain external for the  MGB engine bay configuration specific for the 3.4L L32 Camaro/Firebird SFI system. This also is very useful for other smalland narrow on the bottom engine bays. This includes small changes to the upper intake components- what is generally removed , and also some related changes to the front engine arrangement. Items that are not used in the MGB conversion will not be found in this Diagram.

V6 Block and Crankshaft:  The lower end Exploded view can be used for all rear drive 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4L engines, as the exploded view formats are very similar. The main differences are the additional sensors in the 3.4L and the internal balance of all 1987 and newer GM 60°V6 engines.

SFI Injector Rail Differences:  The fuel injector rail was remade essentially-specifically to the 1993-1995 Camaro Firebird V6 engines, but the 1987-1992 2.8 and 3.1L MPFI engines utilized it first. When going to SFI, GM removed the Starter injector and rather than using the threaded fittings, went to the O-ring type in the 3.4L version. The 2.8/3.1 also had slightly lower fuel delivery injectors, and a fuel pressure regulator that produced lower psi. It's interesting to note that we have blocked off the starter injector on these early rails, swapped all the 3.4L parts onto them, and ran the early rail with threaded fittings without issue. So, if you have a (rarely!) damaged later fuel rail, the earlier rail is a shoe-in for the 3.4L engines.

SFI Camshaft Lobe:  The photo of the front of the camshaft behind the timing chain is important for the 3.4L engines. This lobe that expends from the  bearing is the material that interrupts the camshaft position sensor (CPS) and gives what we might refer to as the "home" signal to the PCM. Although the PCM will run without it, it will only fire in Batch mode, rather than full Sequential Fuel Injection, giving better economy and more precision to the motor at lower and mid RPM powerbands.
