BMC offers several types of T5 shifters for the MGB (and other T5) conversion uses. If you have a T5 that requires a GM type shifter and the gearbox tilts towards the Driver, these shifters straighten the shifter to stand nearly straight up. For an MGB, this usually places the shifter in a very stock appearing position. The top half of the shifter uses an MGB shift-rod with a 3/8" NC thread.
The shifters are formed in our jig, then welded and assembled for a standard length appearance in the MGB. These are produced specifically for any Camaro T5 that continues to use the Favoured and good fitting tilted bellhousing and gearbox combination. These shifters are produced to give a nearly straight-up appearance when in neutral. The overall height is also very close to the standard MGB height coming out the floor/shifter boot. In a 1968-1980 MGB with an iron head GM 60ºV6 conversion, these shifters are nearly centred foward and back to the hole in the centre-console. Please note that the earlier 1962-1967 MGB shifter location would need to be moved to use this shifter as that has a more forward position shifter on the earlier "Non-Sycnrhonized" first gear box in the original format. If his unit is used in pre-1968 MGBs, be prepared to move the shifter tower rearward as well as cut the early tunnel for the room for the gearbox tilt- a step not required for later cars, or ask about using the BMC upright gearbox kit on any pre-1968 MGB.
For the 1982-2002 Camaro T5 combinations in the 1968-1980 MGB/MGBGT, we offer two shifter types. Which one is right for your car?
The Stock MGB shifter: when the MGB gearbox is still in your car, measured from first to second gear, the shifter "Throw" comes in around a 7 or 8 inch throw. (Forward to Back)
Our "Standard Throw" shifter 3-560 is made from Camaro and MGB Shifter components. This unit is around the same overall height, but has a shift length of around 5 to 6 inches, so compared to an MGB, actually feels a bit tighter- a nice improvement to stock.
Our "Short Throw" shifter 3-580 is made from Camaro, MGB, and unobtainium Shifter components. This unit is around the same overall height, but has a shift length of around 2 to 3 inches, so compared to our standard throw, is as short of a throw as possible.
